Last week I decided to take some photos of my chess figures. Recently I play a lot with my 5 and half-year-old son and when I concentrate enough sometimes I have a chance to win. He has really a talent for this game (I hope). I've never been really into chess. When I was young my father convinced me to go to a chess club. At my age there was only a girl as a potential opponent. And she always won. Always. You can imagine that my chess carrier was over soon.
However, I like these chess figures a lot. They were made by a distant relative of my family who passed away couple of years ago. The carving is a kind of masterpiece. I still like them a lot and my favourite figure is "The White King". This figure always reminds me to the excellent book of Gyorgy Dragoman. I can just recommend it. It's not an easy reading but I haven't read such strong book recently and I even enjoyed the second reading a lot.
You can find some review about this book below:
The New York Times
The Washington Post
And here comes my try on " The White King". I used sony a100 with a wireless flash with the rim-light adapter attached to it. This special lighting brings out the texture and the details very well.
